The Story:

Two-point nights from Gabe Klassen (2G) and Ryan McCleary (1G, 1A) stood out in a night to forget for the Winterhawks (36-17-2-3) as they fell 10-3 in Everett (30-24-2-1) on Friday night.

Two early Everett goals from Caden Zaplitny and Jesse Heslop put the hosts ahead early, but Klassen scored his 31st goal of the season for the Winterhawks to make it 2-1 midway through the first, collecting a stretch pass from McCleary and spinning it home while holding off a defender. Austin Roest struck late in the frame to give the Tips a 3-1 lead heading into the break.

Everett found twine with ease in the second period, with six total goals from Matthew Paszkiewicz, Jackson Berezowski, Ty Gibson, Raphael Pelletier (2) and Vincent Lamanna. Zaplitny added another in the third, then Portland pushed back with Klassen's second of the night - a one-time blast on the power play - and McCleary's career-best 12th of the season - a sterling individual effort at the blue line to escape pressure before a quick wrist shot from the right circle.

The Hawks head home for the second leg of this weekend's three-in-three set against Tri-City tomorrow night.
