Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans began a long journey on Tuesday that will take them north of the border for the first time this season. The team then travels west to California for the first time ever, all in less than a week's time, as the Americans begin their longest road-trip, mileage-wise, in team history.
The Allen Americans team bus left Allen Event Center Tuesday at Noon headed to Brampton, Ontario. The team will travel 1,417 total miles from North Texas to Canada, with an expected arrival at the Powerade Center sometime on Wednesday evening. The team will play two games against the Brampton Beast, on Thursday and Friday nights, their first meeting against Brampton in Canada since the Americans eliminated the Beast in five games last April.
Following Friday night's game, the team will hop back on the bus and head back to Texas, for another 1,417 mile journey across the U.S. back to Allen Event Center, with an arrival sometime on Sunday afternoon.
After most long road trips, the team would usually take a day and a half off for recovery time, but in the case of the Americans, they will get right back at it. A crew with the Americans gear will leave early on Monday morning to begin another 1,442 mile trip across the map, this time headed west as the Americans will play their first games ever in the state of California next Tuesday and Wednesday nights, against the Ontario Reign.
"This will be a good test for us," said Americans Captain Jamie Schaafsma, "Playing four quick road games in a few days with a lot of miles traveled in a short amount of time."
The team will depart on Monday afternoon flying to Ontario, California (1,189 air miles), with games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The Americans only regular season games in the Western Conference outside the Central Division in the regular season.
By the time the Americans return to Allen on February 12th, the team will have traveled nearly 6,000 miles (5,718 mi. gear will travel) (5,212 mi. team will travel) in a nine day period.
Be sure to catch all the Americans road games at one of the three watching destinations; Game On Sports Bar and Grill in Allen/Fairview, The Franchise in Plano, or Jacks American Pub in McKinney. The Americans next home game will be on February 14th against Wichita Thunder. Call (972) 912-1000 for more information.
