"Name the Stockton AHL Team" Contest Begins
February 4, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, owned by the Calgary Flames, announce that fans can begin to submit their names for the Stockton American Hockey League franchise set to start play in Fall 2015. Fans can submit their choices for what the name of the AHL team should be at Thunder home games with a form that can be found at the Thunder Information Booth, or can submit online at StocktonThunder.com/AHLname .
"This contest is going to be a fun way for fans to get involved and voice their opinions on what Stockton's new hockey team should be named," Team President Dave Piecuch said. "We look forward to hearing from the community and identifying an exciting team name that our loyal fans can be proud to call their own as we make the transition to the AHL."
One grand prize winner of the chosen name will receive a pair of season tickets for the 2015-16 season. There will be 10 additional winners of a pair of tickets to the AHL Home Opener in October 2015.
On January 29, the Calgary Flames were officially revealed as the owners of the Stockton Thunder after purchasing the team from former owner Brad Rowbotham. That day the AHL and the Flames were part of the announcement of the formation of the AHL's Pacific Division set to begin this upcoming Fall. The ECHL team currently located in Stockton will relocate to the Glens Falls, New York area while the AHL team currently in Glens Falls will arrive in Stockton.
Fans are asked to get creative and come up with teams that best represent you and the city of Stockton. In 2005, 11-year-old Michelle Costa of Tracy, California won the Name the ECHL Team contest when Thunder beat out names like "Fog", "Brawlers", "Skate", "Spears", and "Stallions".
All names will be considered for the AHL team.
$50 deposits per seat are being accepted now for the 2015-16 AHL season! Reserve your seats for the new era in Stockton hockey history by calling (209) 373-1500. For more information, visit StocktonThunder.com/ahl .
