Carruth Named ECHL Goaltender of the Month
February 4, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Indy Fuel goaltender Mac Carruth was named the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month for January 2015, the ECHL and the Fuel announced Wednesday. A 6'2", 180 lb., 22 year-old native of Jackson, Wyoming, Carruth posted a 7-2-0-0 record in ten January appearances, along with two shutouts, a 1.45 goals-against average (GAA) and a save percentage (S%) of .951.
A seventh round draft pick (191st overall) of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks in 2010, Carruth allowed two goals or fewer in seven of his nine January starts and stopped at least 26 pucks in all but three of his January appearances. The first two ECHL shutouts of Carruth's season came courtesy of a 26-save performance in the Fuel's 1-0 road win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on January 19th and a 41-save blanking of the Elmira Jackals in a 3-0 Fuel victory at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on January 31st.
In 22 appearances for the Fuel this season, Carruth is 8-9-2-2 overall with the league's tenth-best GAA (2.53) and a .913 S%. In two appearances for the AHL's Rockford IceHogs in 2014-15, Carruth is a perfect 2-0-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 GAA and a .960 S%. In 54 career ECHL appearances for the Fuel, the Toledo Walleye and the Florida Everblades, Carruth is a combined 18-25-5 with four shutouts, a 3.10 GAA and a S% of .901.
Prior to his professional career, Carruth spent four seasons in the WHL with the Portland Winterhawks where he was a stellar 30-7-2 in his final junior season in 2012-13 with seven shutouts, a 2.07 GAA and a .929 S% to his credit.
Next up for the Fuel, it's a Friday showdown with Indy's in-state rivals, the Evansville IceMen, with the opening faceoff set for 8:15 pm EST at the Ford Center in Evansville. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Jose Cuervo Pregame Show" at 8:00 pm EST over the air on CBS Sports 1430 WXNT-AM, online at www.cbssports1430.com and on smartphones everywhere via the free "TuneIn" Radio app with Fuel broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud "AA" affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL. Season ticket packages for the Fuel's inaugural campaign are available now starting at just under $12 per game!
