
Idaho's Bast Named CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Idaho Steelheads' forward Jason Bast is the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month for January. Bast, who also won the award in October, is just the sixth player to win multiple Rookie of the Month honors since the award began in 1997-98.
The 25-year-old scored eight goals and added nine assists for 17 points in 14 games during the month.
A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Bast had five multi-point games in January, highlighted by a five-point performance (3g-2a) in an 8-5 win at Alaska on Jan. 23. He also had a pair of two-goal games during the month - in a 4-2 victory over Alaska on Jan. 10 and in a 4-3 win against Utah on Jan. 13.
Bast leads ECHL rookies, and is third overall in the league, with 24 goals while his 42 points rank second among first-year players and is tied for 15th overall.
He played four seasons of college hockey with St. Francis Xavier University, tallying 110 points (37g-73a) in 111 career games, and also recorded 254 points (114g-140a) in 331 career games with Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League.
Runners Up: Cody Ferriero, Rapid City (12 gp, 9g, 7a, 16 pts.) and Derek Army, Wheeling (14 gp, 8g, 8a, 16 pts.).
