NORFOLK, VA - In a game that saw eleven different Admirals register at least one point and featured a combined 108 penalty minutes, the Norfolk Admirals (2-6-1-2) came out on top of the Rockford IceHogs (7-5-0-0) 5-2 on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.

The Admirals got behind the proverbial eight ball early in the opening period with back-to-back major penalties to Brent Henley and Brandon Segal, setting the stage for over five minutes of penalty kill - including 2:46 worth of a two-man disadvantage. Tim Brent netted the only tally during the IceHogs' extended power play, sending a shot from the right point five-hole on Norfolk netminder Karri Ramo at 6:34 for a marker on the two-man advantage.

The Admirals knotted the score at 1-1 just under two minutes into the second stanza. Bracken Kearns netted his first goal of the season when his shot from the right half wall went through the legs of Rockford backstop Corey Crawford at 1:49.

Norfolk took a 2-1 lead just over ten minutes later on the power play. Radek Smolenak deked past a defender in the slot and sent a shot that snuck over the goal line at 13:58.

Nathan Davis tied the game at two goals apiece just over two minutes later when his power play shot hopped over Ramo's left leg and into the net at 16:07.

However, Daryl Boyle gave the lead back to the Admirals just fifteen seconds later with his first professional goal. Boyle sent a shot from the right point that deflected off the sticks of two Rockford defenders and past Crawford at 15:22.

A chippy third period saw the Admirals rack up 32 penalty minutes and tack on two insurance goals. Andrew Hutchinson scored his first goal as an Admiral at 12:44 when his power play slap shot from the left point found its mark. Captain Zenon Konopka then closed out scoring at 15:41 when his blast from the left circle bounded off Crawford's shoulder and rolled over the goal line.

Karri Ramo (34 shots, 32 saves) earned the win. Corey Crawford (45 shots, 40 saves) picked up the loss.

Both teams were 2-6 on the power play.

The Admirals will close out their five-game homestand tomorrow night with a rematch against the IceHogs. Following the game, Norfolk will depart on a two-week, eight-game road trip through the Atlantic Division and will not return to Scope until the week of Thanksgiving.
