MANCHESTER, NH - The Phantoms found an unlikely hero Friday night in Nate Guenin, who scored the deciding shootout goal that gave the Phantoms a 3-2 win over the Manchester Monarchs at Verizon Wireless Arena. Guenin, who has just seven goals in 157 career games, scored in the fifth round to give Philadelphia its sixth consecutive victory.

Manchester scored the game's first goal with three-tenths of a second left on the clock in the first period. The Monarchs were on a power play and time was winding down when Trevor Lewis shoveled a puck on net from the center point. It bounced off a couple people, including Bud Holloway, and landed behind Scott Munroe for a power play marker. Holloway was credited with the goal that officially went down at 19:59.

Philadelphia tied the game 3:30 into the second period during a 5-on-3 power play. Danny Syvret fired a shot from the center point that found its way past Jonathan Bernier for his third goal of the year, making it a 1-1 game.

Less than three minutes later, the Monarchs jumped back ahead. Former Phantom Marty Murray cleaned up the rebound of a shot from Vladimir Dravecky at the 6:13 mark and the score became 2-1.

But the Phantoms matched Manchester's accomplishment in the first period with a late power play marker of their own in the second period. Sean Curry measured up and took a slapshot from the center point that Jonathan Matsumoto deflected in such a manner that it floated up over the glove of Bernier and down into the net, knotting the score with 47.3 seconds left on the clock in the period.

After a scoreless third period and overtime, the Phantoms went to their second shootout of the year. The goaltenders had the upper hand, with neither team scoring in the first three rounds. Teddy Purcell and Jared Ross traded goals in the fourth round. Murray missed in the fifth, and then Guenin came on and sniped a wrister to the upper right corner to end the evening.

Munroe stopped 33 of Manchester's 35 shots in taking the win, while Bernier absorbed the loss with 31 saves on 33 Phantoms bids. Philadelphia's power play scored twice, giving it at least a goal in its last five contests.
