Manitoba Moose News Release

Twelve Moose players racked up points on Friday night helping Manitoba edge Rochester 5-1, winning all-three games over the Americans this season. Four unanswered goals and 26 saves from Cory Schneider propelled the Moose over the Amerks and extended their winning streak to nine consecutive games.

Making his second consecutive start for the Moose, Cory Schneider manned the visiting pipes opposite former Brandon Wheat King Tyler Plante. Three minutes into the opening period, the Americans received the first man-advantage of the game as new winger, James Neal, was penalized for tripping. Rochester registered three shots on net during the power play, but two-minutes proved too short to crack Schneider.

The Moose's power play line-up made their debut at 8:43 as Janis Sprukts was fined for interference. With help from Jason Krog and Lawrence Nycholat, Jason Jaffray extended his point streak to seven games scoring the night's first goal.

The Moose didn't give the Amerks much time to recover, as Labrie snuck past the home club's defense and hit the top shelf, putting his team up by two.

At 12:16 the Moose earned their second power play and third goal of the night courtesy of Jimmy Sharrow's powerful slap shot - his first of the season.

The Americans opted to switch tenders after eight shots replacing Plante with Chris Beckford-Tseu.

The second period started with a high-sticking penalty against Amerks defenseman Michael Caruso but Manitoba's bench-minor penalty, served by Guillaume Desbiens, would even the odds with four-on-four hockey for two-minutes.

At 9:47 James Neal made an impression during his first game in antlers by snapping the puck between Beckford-Tseu's five-hole, putting the Moose on top of the Amerks by four.

A heavy hit delivered by Desbiens on Rochester's Riley Emmerson started a feud and fists flying between the two players. After the clash, both players were reprimanded with five-minute fighting majors.

At 15:10 of the second, Americans winger Michal Repik officially dissolved Manitoba's 4-0 lead. With a cluster of players crowding Schneider's crease, Repik lifted the puck into the net to score Rochester's first goal of the game, 4-1.

Back-to-back penalties to Manitoba's Labrie and Jaffray would give the Amerks a five-on-three man-advantage for a minute. The Moose were able to kill-off the penalties without sacrificing any goals but the Amerks would lead the visitors in shots, 21-15.

The Moose extended their lead even further with a goal from Darryl Bootland at 12:31, putting the Moose in front of the home team, 5-1.

After back and fourth play for the remainder of the game the Moose secured their 5-1 victoryand extended their winning streak to nine-consecutive game.
