ALBANY, NY - Rookie goaltender Simeon Varlamov recorded a 19-save shutout as the Hershey Bears blanked the Albany River Rats 3-0 Friday night at the Times Union Center.

Hershey returned to Albany only one week after their last visit and immediately grabbed the upper hand. Bears' forward Andrew Gordon put the River Rats on their heels when he lit the lamp just 64 seconds into the game, one-timing a pass from Andrew Joudrey over the shoulder of Albany goaltender Daniel Manzato for his seventh of the season. Hershey dominated possession in the opening period, but could not add to their lead as Manzato made some excellent saves to keep the Rats close.

The Bears doubled their lead at 3:53 of the second period when rookie Oskar Osala easily slid the puck into the open net after a cross-ice pass from Mathieu Perreault found him unmarked on the far post. The goal was Osala's ninth of the season, assisted by Perrault and Francois Bouchard, and it gave Hershey a 2-0 advantage. The Bears had a clear edge in scoring chances and out-shot the River Rats 21-14 through 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, Varlamov and the Bears defense refused to let Albany into the game. Bouchard sealed the victory at 16:19 with Hershey's third goal, holding the puck on a 2-on-1 rush and ripping it passed Manzato, assisted by Perreault and Sami Lepisto.

Rookie netminder Simeon Varlamov stopped all 19 shots he faced to earn his first career AHL shutout, lifting Hershey to 9-3-0-1 on the season. Albany goaltender Daniel Manzato stopped 24-of-27 shots, but took the loss as the River Rats fell to 2-6-1-1. The Bears out-shot Albany 27-19 in the game and went 0-for-2 on the power play; the Rats were 0-for-5 with the man-advantage.

Albany is back in action Saturday, November 8th as they host the Providence Bruins for a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center. Saturday is also Lukoil/Getty Travel Mug Night, where the first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a Travel Mug courtesy of the River Rats and Lukoil/Getty.
