Albany River Rats News Release
RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Michael Ryan from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. To make room for Ryan on the roster, the Hurricanes placed center Brandon Sutter on injured reserve.
Ryan, 28, was signed by the Hurricanes on Oct. 31, and has played in two games with the River Rats, notching one goal and earning two assists (3 points). The Boston native spent the past two seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, totaling four goals and four assists (8 points) in 46 games with the Sabres in 2007-08. Ryan (6'1", 188 lbs.) has also played in parts of four seasons with the Rochester Americans of the AHL, tallying 122 points (56g, 66a). He netted 28 goals in just 50 games with the Americans in 2006-07, as he split that season between Rochester and Buffalo. Prior to turning professional, Ryan spent four seasons at Northeastern University, scoring 63 goals and earning 50 assists (113 points) in 135 career collegiate games.
The Hurricanes begin a three-game home stand tonight against the Ottawa Senators (7 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network). The Atlanta Thrashers will visit the RBC Center on Sunday for a 3 p.m. matinee, and the Hurricanes will round out the home stand against Washington on Wednesday night.
