Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose embark on a busy weekend beginning next Friday, November 14th when they encourage fans to "Go Green", before welcoming Santa Claus to the MTS Centre on Saturday, November 15th following his duties in the annual Power Smart/Winnipeg Jaycees Santa Claus Parade.

Friday, November 14th - Moose vs. Marlies - 7:30 PM

On Friday, November 14th the Manitoba Moose will host the Toronto Marlies and "Go Green" Night, in support of the environment, at the MTS Centre. The night features the following:

fans are encouraged to wear green to Friday to make a statement about the importance of living a greener and more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

the first 3,000 fans will receive Power Smart LED Manitoba Moose night lights.

ALL fans will be entered into a draw to win the grand prize of an Eco Friendly steam washer and dryer, courtesy of Leon's!

As well, True North Sports & Entertainment continues their own efforts to make the MTS Centre more environmentally friendly through the following initiatives:

The MTS Centre recycles ALL plastic bottles and aluminum cans. They are collected from all containers, then separated by hand during daily cleaning. To date this year, we have recycled 230,000 bottles and cans.

The MTS Centre has added an electric boiler, supplied by Sempa Power Systems, as its primary hot water source, which greatly reduces the amount of time the gas boilers actually operate. In fact, this system has already saved 221.6 tonnes of Greenhouse Gas Emissions -- or the equivalent of over 470,000 miles of driving -- with the coldest Manitoba months STILL to come.

All MTS Centre building chemicals, such as hand soap or cleaning soaps, as well as water treatment chemicals are environmentally friendly green products.

All finishes and paints used in the MTS Centre are non-oil latex based products.

All cardboard boxes and office paper are recycled

All paper products, such as hand towels and toilet paper, are 80 per cent recycled paper.

Saturday, November 15th - Moose vs. Marlies 7:30 PM

Then on Saturday, November 15th, the annual Power Smart/Winnipeg Jaycees Santa Claus Parade takes place in downtown Winnipeg, travelling east on Portage Avenue beginning at 5:00 pm and ending at 7:15 pm. That same night, the Manitoba Moose will once again host the Marlies at 7:30 pm at the MTS Centre, right after the parade.

To get in the holiday spirit, Santa Claus will be present at the game and will be available for pictures throughout the night in the south end of the concourse. Pictures are $2.00 each.

Also, fans at the MTS Centre prior to the game who show their game ticket will receive a FREE hot chocolate from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm in the arena's concourse.

Street closures and congestion will only be experienced prior to the Moose game. At the end of the parade, prior to the conclusion of the game, all streets will be re-opened and leaving the downtown area will be no different than a regular Moose game. However, please consult www.mooosehockey.com or call the Moose offices at 204-987-7825 to get more information about appropriate routes and parking availability around the MTS Centre that night.

Those Moose fans who have pre-paid parking already will receive a coloured "Dash Card" which will indicate to police and monitored local-access-only barricades that they are allowed access to one of our Pre-Paid Lots. These spots will be available as they would be any regular gamenight.

So join the Manitoba Moose and their fans next weekend to "Go Green" on Friday and then get into the Christmas Spirit on Saturday when the Moose take on their division-rival Marlies.
