Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
THREE GAMES AT U.S. BANK ARENA THIS WEEK: The Cincinnati Cyclones (9-10-0-1) play four games this week, three at U.S. Bank Arena. The Cyclones play host to Dayton on Tuesday night (Dec. 12) and Johnstown on Thursday and Friday (Dec. 14 & 15). Saturday, the Cyclones are at Johnstown.
PROMOTIONS: Tuesday night (Dec. 12) is a Two-For-Tuesday, where fans can purchase two $12 or $17 tickets for the game against Dayton for the price of one ticket. Thursday's game (Dec. 14) against Johnstown is a Thirsty Thursday--where 12 ounce Pabst Blue Ribbon beer will be $1 each. Friday's game (Dec. 15) is Big Ben Helmet Safety Night. The Ohio Dept. of Transportation has provided information on motorcycle safety to all in attendance, along with $50 gift certificates to The Plastic Surgery Group--with a grand prize winner getting a $500 gift certificate. The first 1500 kids will receive Cyclones foam goalie helmets and two lucky ticket holders will receive Pocket Rocket motor bikes.
ABOUT LAST WEEK: The Cyclones won one and lost a pair last week. Wednesday (Dec. 6), the Cyclones claimed a 3-2 win at Reading. Jon Gleed, Jason Deitsch and Cory Urquhart tallied the goals in the triumph. Friday night (Dec. 8), Reading claimed a 5-2 victory--as Urquhart and Deitsch picked up the goals. Saturday, a late goal by Dayton resulted in a 4-3 loss for the Cyclones. Sam Ftorek, Deitsch and Barret Ehgoetz notched the scores.
POWER PLAY PERFECTION: The Cyclones were three-for-three on the power play in Saturday's (Dec. 9) loss at Dayton. It is the second time this season that the club lit the lamp three times in a contest with an extra attacker (Dec. 1 v. Wheeling was the other). In the month of December, Cincinnati is seven for 32 (21.8 percent) on the power play.
NOT SO NICE TO SEE YOU...: Last week the Cyclones battled Reading in back-to-back games. This week, Cincinnati will finish a brief two-game series with Dayton on Tuesday night (Dec. 12). Later in the week, the Cyclones run into Johnstown three straight times (Dec. 14-15 at U.S. Bank Arena and in Johnstown on Dec. 16). Next week (Dec. 21 & 22), the club gets Toledo in back-to-back affairs. Wheeling has a pair with the Cyclones (Dec. 23 & 27), before a single game with Dayton breaks the string on Dec. 28.
DEITSCH A DELIGHT: Cyclones forward Jason Deitsch registered a goal in each of the three games last week, to run his consecutive games streak with a goal to four.. Last week, Deitsch collected three goals and two assists for five points. The Cincinnati native is tied for second on the club with 15 points on the season.
500 FOR FTOREK: Wednesday night (Dec. 6) was the 500th professional game for Cyclones forward Sam Ftorek. The seventh-year pro from Wolfeboro, NH has appeared in 502 games, with 124 goals, 169 assists for 293 points and 706 penalty minutes during that time. Ftorek scored his first goal as a Cyclone Saturday night (Dec. 9) in the loss at Dayton.
URQUHART REACHES MILESTONE: Cyclones forward Cory Urquhart collected the game winning goal in Wednesday's (Dec. 6) 3-2 win at Reading. The third-year pro's goal was the 100th point in his career and happened in his 150th game.
EXTRA SPECIAL TEAMS: The Cyclones lead the ECHL in penalty killing at 85.7 percent. The squad has allowed five power play goals in the past 43 opportunities (88.5 kill percentage) over the last seven games. During that same stretch, Cincinnati has cashed in on nine of 39 chances for a 23.3 percent power play efficiency.
TIGHT SQUEEZE: The Cyclones are currently in fifth place in the ECHL's North Division standings. It is a three-way tie for the fifth spot--so an argument could be made that the club is also tied for last place. Entering play today (Dec. 12), the squad is just six points (three wins) out of first place. It is the tightest divisional race from top-to-bottom of any ECHL division. The Cyclones play the next 32 games within the division. The next time the club plays outside of the seven teams in the North, will be February 27, when the club is in Fresno.
GRUMET-MORRIS GETS CALL: Cyclones goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris was signed by the Portland Pirates (AHL) last Tuesday (Dec. 5). Grumet-Morris has played 20 minutes and allowed one goal and stopped eleven shots (3.00 goals against average and a .909 save percentage). An injury to Anaheim (NHL) goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov started the chain reaction of recalls that created the opportunity for the second-year pro.
DESJARDINS PICKS UP ROAD WIN: Wednesday night (Dec. 6), rookie goaltender Cedrick Desjardins collected his first win away from U.S. Bank Arena, stopping 32 shots in the 3-2 triumph.
RAWLYK DELIVERS: The Cyclones signed defenseman Rory Rawlyk last Friday (Dec. 1) and he responded with a goal and a pair of assists in his debut game. In five games with Cincinnati, Rawlyk has points in each and has a goal and seven assists for eight points. Rory was in the starting lineup for the American Conference at the ECHL All-Star Game last season (representing Charlotte) and had two assists in the 7-6 loss to the National Conference. Rawlyk leads all Cyclones defensemen in scoring.
DICKMANN'S MONDAY NIGHT!: On Mondays, Head Coach Chuck Weber and selected players will be at Dickmann's Sports Cafe (479 Orphanage Rd., Ft. Wright, KY) from 7-8pm.
