ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Jared Jones silenced the Mud Hens offense with a career-high tying 7.0 shutout innings and Osvaldo Bido earned his first career save to lead the Indianapolis Indians to their fourth shutout of Toledo this season on Friday night at Victory Field, 2-0. After surrendering a leadoff double to Ryan Kreidler in the second inning, Jones (W, 4-4) sat down 11 of the next 12 batters faced without allowing a hit. Chase De Jong and Bido (S, 1) entered in relief for the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to complete the shutout performance. Nick Gonzales continued his torrid stretch this week with a first-inning home run. The defense also backed Jones, with center fielder Matt Gorski making a diving catch on a sharp line drive in the fourth inning and a one-handed snag with his arm outstretched on the warning track in the fifth to take away a pair of extra-base hits. Ryan Vilade added insurance with an RBI triple in the sixth inning to plate Cal Mitchell, it was the second run scored against starter Keider Montero (L, 3-2), who struck out eight over 6.0 innings of work.

JONES DOMINATES: Jared Jones tossed a gem in part of Indy's seventh shutout of the season. He tossed a career-high tying 7.0 shutout innings, allowing just four hits with four walks. He eclipsed 7.0 frames for the first time since June 26, 2022, with High-A Greensboro vs. Asheville to mark his first scoreless outing of at least 5.0 innings this season and his best Triple-A start with Indianapolis to date. Since joining Indianapolis from Double-A Altoona on June 20, he leads the International League in strikeouts (85) and ranks tied for second in games started (13) and innings pitched (71.1).

SHUTOUT WINNER: Jared Jones, Chase De Jong and Osvaldo Bido combined to earn the Indians seventh shutout win of the season on Friday night. The Indians improve to 7-4 in shutouts. The team's seven shutouts are the most in a season since 2018 (14).

THAT'S A FIRST: Osvaldo Bido closed out Friday night's win in the ninth to earn his first career save in his first save opportunity. Last night was just his second appearance with Indianapolis since being optioned by Pittsburgh on Aug. 27, both coming in relief. The 27-year-old had his contract first selected by Pittsburgh on June 14, making his major league debut at Wrigley Field vs. the Cubs, posting 4.0 one-run innings with six strikeouts. Bido is 2-5 with a 6.36 ERA (33er/46.2ip), 44 strikeouts and 1.54 WHIP in 14 games (eight starts) with Pittsburgh.

LOCK IT DOWN: Indians relief pitching has 10 saves since July 29, which is tied for the most saves in the International League during that span, alongside Columbus and Jacksonville. Hunter Stratton leads the team with four saves followed by Colin Selby with two, and Osvaldo Bido, Travis MacGregor and Rob Zastryzny each have one apiece. Stratton and Selby both have six saves on the season to lead the team.

GONZO'S SCORCHING HOT: Nick Gonzales belted his third home run in his last five games on Friday. Gonzales has scored a run in each of his last five games, including a career-high tying four runs scored on Tuesday. Since Sunday's series finale at Buffalo, he is hitting .444 (8-for-18) with eight runs four extra-base hits, a .545 on-base percentage and 1.601 OPS. THREE BAGS: Ryan Vilade clubbed his fourth triple of the season last night and Indy's International League-leading 39th triple of the season. The Indians are five triples shy of their 2022 total of 44, which led the league and was the sixth-most in all of professional baseball last season. Vilade's four three-baggers is the second-most by an Indians batter this season, following Nick Gonzales (6).

CSN SWIPES: Canaan Smith-Njigba swiped his team-leading 18th bag of the season yesterday. He is off to a hot start to the month and has notched a hit in 13 of his last 19 games. Smith-Njigba is 8-for-16 with two doubles, six RBI and three stolen bases against Toledo this week. Since Aug. 12, he is hitting .299 (26-for-87) with four doubles, three home runs and 18 RBI in 23 games. His 18 RBI during that span is tied for the 10th-most in the International League.

RUFFLED FEATHERS: The Indians can clinch their ninth series win of the season and sweep the three series against Toledo with a win tonight or tomorrow. Indy's shut out win on Friday night was their fourth against the Mud Hens this season. The Indians are 13-3 against Toledo this season, outscoring them, 111-47.

TONIGHT: The Indians and Mud Hens play the penultimate game of their six-game set on Saturday at 6:35 PM ET at Victory Field. The Indians earned a shutout win on Friday night and have two opportunities to clinch the series with a win. Tonight, RHP Max Kranick (0-1, 5.79) will take the mound for Indianapolis against Toledo's RHP Spencer Turnbull (0-1, 7.71). Turnbull has never faced Indianapolis.

KRANICK TAKES THE HILL: Right-hander Max Kranick will take the hill tonight against Toledo in his second appearance this week. Tonight marks his second outing since being optioned by Pittsburgh on Sept. 1. The 26-year-old began the season on the 60-day injured list after undergoing Tommy John surgery on June 3, 2022. He made two rehab starts with Indianapolis before being optioned late last week. He went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (3er/4.0ip) with five strikeouts. Kranick tossed 0.2 innings on 20 pitches in his first outing against the Mud Hens on Tuesday. His first career start against Toledo came on Aug. 20, 2021, he earned the win after posting 6.0 shutout innings with four hits allowed, no walks and three strikeouts.

THIS DATE IN 1989: Following a rainout on September 8, Indy and Richmond played a twin bill for Games 2 and 3 of the Triple-A Classic. The Indians won both games by 4-3 margins to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Jim Steels, who played in 103 games with Triple-A Phoenix before being acquired by Montreal and appearing in each of Indy's final two regular-season games, tallied five hits and two RBI in the doubleheader.
