Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (72-61) gave up two home runs in the ninth inning to lose their fourth straight game to the Omaha Storm Chasers (62-69), by a score of 4-2, Friday at Principal Park.

Samad Taylor broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the third inning, the only run Riley Thompson would allow. The right-hander surrendered two hits and three walks while striking out five over his 3.1 innings of work.

He was followed by Chris Clarke, who spun 2.1 scoreless innings of his own, allowing just three hits and one walk while fanning four. Trailing 1-0, Jared Young tied the game for Iowa with a solo home run.

The deep fly was his fifth of the series and his fourth consecutive game with a home run. Tied 1-1, Tyler Duffey took over for Iowa, and the veteran kept the game locked where it was. Duffey spun 2.1 scoreless, hitless innings, walking one while striking out three of the eight batters he faced.

Iowa took their first lead of the game in the seventh on an RBI single from David Bote, his 57th run batted in of the year. Unfortunately for Iowa, they couldn't hold the lead, as down to their final two outs, CJ Alexander clubbed a solo home run to tie the game.

After a single, Taylor hit a two-run home run to put the Storm Chasers in front 4-2. Iowa brought the tying run to the plate in their half of the ninth, but Dylan Coleman recorded the final three outs to secure the series victory.

POSTGAME NOTES:

Jared Young hit another home run tonight, giving him four straight games with a long ball. He is the first player since Narciso Crook to hit a home run in four straight games, as he did so from June 10-14 last year.

With their blown save in the ninth inning tonight, Iowa dropped to 54-3 this year when leading after eight innings.

Iowa and Omaha will play game five of their six-game set tomorrow, with first pitch from Principal Park set for 6:08 pm. You can listen to all Iowa Cubs games on Hope AM940 and stream them for free on the Bally Live App. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
