Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Buffalo, New York - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (74-61, 38-24) saw their three-game winning streak come to a close as they were walked-off on, 3-2, by the Buffalo Bisons (69-66, 35-25) on Saturday night at Sahlen Field.
The IronPigs drew first blood in the fourth inning. Matt Kroon tripled with two outs before Simon Muzziotti legged out a bunt base hit to drive in Kroon and plate the first run of the game.
Buffalo tied things up immediately in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Orelvis Martinez walked and Luis De Los Santos then singled him to second. Tanner Morris then lined a base hit to left to plate Martinez, tying the game at 1-1.
Morris started a rally to put Buffalo ahead in the seventh. He singled to start the frame and one out later Cam Eden doubled him over to third. Nathan Lukes then singled home Morris to put Buffalo on top 2-1.
The IronPigs found an immediate response in the eighth. With one out, Brewer Hicklen walked and stole second. One out later, Weston Wilson doubled him home to knot the score at 2-2.
Tied heading into the last of the ninth, Buffalo walked it off just three batters into the frame. Eden singled to start the inning and then stole second. A groundout moved him to third before a Rafael Lantigua pop fly single down the rightfield line score Eden to win the game for the Bisons, 3-2.
Erik Swanson (1-0) captured the win in relief for the Bisons, working a perfect ninth innings, striking out one.
Luis Ortiz (3-1) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, going 1.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks.
Despite not factoring into the decision, Nick Nelson posted another strong outing. He turned in his eighth Quality Start of the season, going 6.1 frames, allowing just two runs on seven hits and a walk, striking out four.
The IronPigs and Bisons wrap their series on Sunday, September 10, with first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. at Sahlen Field.
