Giants Acquire Star Forward Mathis Preston from Chiefs
January 5, 2026 - Ladner B.C. - The Vancouver Giants have acquired 2008-born forward Mathis Preston from the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for forward Tyus Sparks, defenceman Marek Howell and a first-round pick (originally Calgary's) in 2026.
Preston (Penticton, B.C.) was listed as an 'A' skater by NHL Central Scouting on their preliminary players to watch list for the 2026 NHL Draft, projecting him as a first-round pick. January 5, 2026 - LADNER, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants announced today that they have completed three separate trades, acquiring a total of seven draft picks - including two first-round picks - and two players.
From the Seattle Thunderbirds, the Giants have acquired 2007-born defenceman Kaleb Hartmann, a first-round pick in 2026, a first-round pick in 2028, a conditional second-round pick in 2027, a conditional fourth-round pick in 2028 and a fifth-round pick in 2027 in exchange for forward Cameron Schmidt.

Lions Extend Versatile Offensive Lineman Chris Schleuger Though 2027
January 5, 2026 - (Vancouver) - The BC Lions are keeping another key veteran in the fold, as American offensive lineman Chris Schleuger has signed a two-year contract extension. Schleuger was eligible to become a free agent on February 10.
"Whether at guard or tackle, 'Slug' has performed well since he arrived in 2023," said general manager Ryan Rigmaiden.

January 4, 2026 - VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Sunday that the club has transferred winger Ali Ahmed to English Championship side Norwich City FC. As part of the agreement, Whitecaps FC will retain a sell-on percentage if Ahmed is transferred in the future.
