Professional Baseball Return to Schaumburg, Viano Named GM

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Pat and Lindy Salvi are proud to officially announce that baseball is back in Schaumburg, as they have purchased a 100% stake in the professional baseball franchise that will compete at Alexian Field beginning in May 2012. The owners of the Gary (Ind.) SouthShore RailCats since 2008, the Salvi's bring a proven track record of on and off-field success to the Northwest suburbs.

The couple's newest professional baseball club will also have a familiar face at the helm, as the franchise has named RailCats President/General Manager Andy Viano to the same position with the to-be-named Schaumburg club.

"Today is a great day for me and my family as we bring a new brand of family entertainment to Schaumburg," Owner/CEO Pat Salvi said. "This is a new beginning for Schaumburg and the surrounding community and I couldn't be more excited about working in this wonderful area and getting to know a whole new set of local leaders, community partners, corporate partners and baseball fans!"

For over 28 years, Pat Salvi has been the majority share holder and managing partner of the prominent Chicago personal injury law firm, Salvi Schostok & Pritchard, P.C. He attended Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota where he received his Bachelor's degree, and then received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Notre Dame. He has published numerous articles in law journals, lectured at legal seminars, taught classes at universities such as Northwestern, Harvard and Notre Dame. He currently teaches as an adjunct professor at Notre Dame Law School.

Viano spent seven years with the RailCats in a variety of roles before being named President/General Manager prior to the start of the 2011 season. The Downers Grove, Ill. native guided the club's transition to the American Association and oversaw a successful year both on and off the field, as the 'Cats broke their single-game attendance record twice en route to averaging more than 3,200 fans per game and enjoyed their seventh straight winning season.

"The Village of Schaumburg and Alexian Field has always been one of the premier spots for minor league baseball and I am tremendously excited about bringing the great fans in this area the type of entertainment they expect and deserve," Viano said. "The RailCats were built on outstanding customer service, dedication to individual fans and partners, a top-flight facility and a winning tradition on the field, and we will settle for nothing less than bringing all of that to Schaumburg starting in May."

Salvi and Viano will both be on hand at this weekend's Septemberfest in downtown Schaumburg to meet and mingle with fans and give the community their first taste of the new team. Prominent Chicago Attorney and Owner of the Gary SouthShore RailCats, Pat Salvi purchased his second minor league baseball team in August 2011.
