Game Keys: The New Orleans Zephyrs returned to action on Monday night after postponing its final three home games due to Hurricane Katrina. The New Orleans bats were alive following the layoff banging out 14 hits and scoring 10 runs, in a 10-7 win in Oklahoma City. Juan Melo homered in the third inning and scored a pair of runs. The Z?s had multi RBI evenings from Tyrell Godwin and Brandon Watson. The Z?s used six pitchers and former Redhawk Travis Hughes pitched the ninth to earn his 13th save of the season. Josh Karp was the winning pitcher, he improves to 3-1. Monday?s game was his first appearance for the Z?s since late June. The Z?s lead the season series 9-4 over the first place Redhawks.
Rick Short Watch ?1x5, with a run scored and a RBI? His season batting average is at .386 with 9 games remaining in the season.
Game Notes: The Oklahoma Redhawks have teamed up with the New Orleans Zephyrs and will assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Redhawks are seeking donations of bottled water at their games the next eight days. Anyone who brings bottled water to SBC Bricktown Ballpark will receive a free ticket to any remaining Redhawks home game. The Redhawks will truck the water to Zephyr Field in the next few days. The Redhawks also had a moment of silence prior to the game?.. The Pacific Coast League announced that Brandon Watson, Rick Short, and LH Matt White were all named to its post season All-Star Team. Matt White returned to the Z?s from Washington on Monday after starting on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. New Orleans has made 132 player moves this season.
Up Next: The Zephyrs (60-72) vs. Oklahoma Redhawks (74-61) -- 7:05. The Z?s will send RH Chad Durbin (4-5, 5.77) vs. RH R.A. Dickey (8-6, 6.54). The Redhawks are in first place in the division and hold a half game lead on Albuquerque with 7 games to play.
