Wranglers Take 4-3 Shootout Win from Steelheads

November 29, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

Boise, Ida. - The Las Vegas Wranglers won 4-3 over the Idaho Steelheads tonight, taking their first shootout game of the season after responding to three Idaho leads.

Steelheads forward Brett Robinson kicked off scoring midway through the first period, beating Wranglers goalie Mitch O'Keefe to make it a 1-0 game. A physical game allowed Las Vegas a late power play opportunity and Wranglers forward Geoff Irwin found the back of the net to tie the game with 19 seconds left in the first.

The second mirrored the first as another Idaho goal, this time off the stick of forward Brock Montgomery, came midway through the period to give the Steelheads a 2-1 lead. A double-minor power play came the Wranglers' way in the last five minutes of the period, and left wing Adam Hughesman shoved a loose puck past Steelheads goalie Josh Robinson to tie the game 2-2.

Idaho opened the third with 1:27 of carryover power play time, but the team was unable to capitalize. Steelheads forward Mitch Wahl regained the one-goal lead for the home team, but Wranglers forward Bryce Reddick posted his first goal of the season with 3:53 left in regulation to once again knot the game 3-3. Five minutes of overtime couldn't decide the game, and after seven rounds of a shootout, the Wranglers earned the 4-3 win with Irwin, Hughesman, (F) Matt Tassone and (D) Jeff May scoring. O'Keefe made 26 saves in the victory.

After five weeks of road games, the Wranglers return home Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:05 p.m. The team will take on the Bakersfield Condors, and The Smithereens will perform a post-game concert. On Sunday, Dec. 8, the annual Teddy Bear Toss returns to Orleans Arena as the San Francisco Bulls come to town.
