TONIGHT:
The defending Pacific Division Champion Ontario Reign (11-2-1-3) will play the defending Western Conference Champion Stockton Thunder (11-4-0-2) in Stockton tonight. The Reign are 3-0-0-0 against the Thunder so far this season with 11 goals-for and just five goals-against.
WHERE THEY RANK:
Ontario, with 26 points, is atop the Pacific Division and Western Conference, and is third in the league. Stockton is right on the heels of the Reign with 24 points - meaning a Thunder win tonight would pull the Reign back down into a tie for the division and conference leads.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
On paper these two teams boast the top active goalies in the league. The Reign's Michael Hutchinson, named Goalie of the Week Nov. 11-17, is second with a 1.72 goals-against average and fourth with a 0.938 save percentage. Stockton's Brian Foster, the current Goalie of the Week, ranks first in both categories with a 1.70 goals-against average and 0.945 save percentage. Foster has yet to lose in regulation.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
The Thunder could be a threat on the power-play now that the Reign are in their house. This season, the Thunder rank first in at-home power plays with a 42.9% conversion rate on 28 chances. The team's 24.6 overall power play also keeps them at the top of the chart. Ontario's 17.5% away conversion on the power play is good for fifth in the league on the road but they will need to improve their 14th ranked road penalty kill against this team to keep the Thunder's power-play goal count down.
