Smith Reassigned to Steelheads

Boise, ID (11/29/13) - Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Ralph announced Friday afternoon that forward Austin Smith has been reassigned to the Idaho Steelheads by the NHL's Dallas Stars.

Smith, 25, comes to Idaho after opening the season with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League. Idaho and Texas are the primary development affiliates of the Dallas Stars.

The Dallas, TX, product was scoreless in nine games to open the season with Texas but returns to an Idaho team that he led in goals (27) and points (50) in just 38 games during the 2012-13 season, including a spinning, back-hand goal in a win over Bakersfield on January 4 that landed him in the ESPN SportsCenter "Top Ten Plays." He added another seven goals during Idaho's run to the ECHL's Western Conference finals last spring.

Smith is in his second full professional season out of Colgate (NCAA) where he led the nation in goals as a senior when he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, presented annually to the top player in NCAA college hockey.

He's expected to be in uniform Friday night when Idaho hosts Las Vegas at CenturyLink Arena. It's also CenturyLink Cap Night . Game time is 7:10 PM and tickets are available at the arena box office.
