Victoria scored the first goal of the evening just 37 seconds into the contest for the quick 1-0 lead. Forward Ryan Watson tipped in a rebound off an Adam Campbell shot for the Salmon Kings' goal. Las Vegas countered to tie the game a little later in the period when Chris Stanley scored his 12th goal of the season at 10:51. Stanley picked up a loose puck and danced into the Victoria zone, slipping in behind the defense and firing the puck between the legs of Dan Blackburn, tying the game at one. Las Vegas took a 2-1 lead when Wranglers rookie Dustin Johner scored his team-leading 21st goal of the season at 14:48. Johner knocked it a rebound off a Mike McBain shot from the right point. Johner's power-play goal tied the Wranglers team record for the most goals in a season.

In the second, Johner struck again for his second of the night, this time on the power play at 2:23. Johner's 22nd of the season set a new team record for the most goals in a season. Johner sent a one-timer from the top of the left-wing circle and off the blocker of Blackburn to make it 3-1 Las Vegas. Later in the period, winger Adam Huxley set a new team record when he picked up a 10-minute misconduct to surpass Chris Wheaton's mark of 214 penalty minutes in a season. Huxley racked up 21 penalty minutes to get to a season total of 223. Victoria's Alexei Glukhov scored by redirecting a pass from Ryan Wade to trim the Wranglers lead to 3-2 at 17:51. The Wranglers made a last-second rush up the ice before the end of the period to score their fourth goal of the night. Defenseman Deryk Engelland fired the puck with five seconds to go in the period on an up-ice rush. He followed up to put the rebound on net again and Dan Tudin tpped the rebound at the buzzer to lift Las Vegas to a 4-2 lead after two periods of play.
