Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC â The Victoria Salmon Kings and the Las Vegas Wranglers waged battle again on Saturday and the Wranglers outlasted the Salmon Kings for the 4-3 win.
Victoria opened the scoring early, only thirty seven seconds into the game, Ryan Watson scored his twelfth of the season from Ryan Wade and Adam Campbell. The Wranglers came right back though, replying with two of their own before the end of the period. Jason McBain and Matt Schmidt set up Chris Stanley's twelfth and then Jason's brother Mike and Darren Lynch got into the act on Dustin Johner's team leading twenty first.
Johner extended the Wranglers lead to 3-1 early in the middle period, notching his twenty second and second of the game at 2:23 on the powerplay. It took until 17:51 of the period before the Salmon Kings crawled back into the game, when Alexey Glukhov beat Vegas goaltender Marc Magliarditi for his third of the season, putting the Salmon Kings back just a single marker.
For the fourth straight game the Salmon Kings played solid hockey minimizing their mistakes and forcing the opposition to play better. But with ten seconds left in the period the Salmon Kings let up in their own zone and the Wranglers made them pay. Deryk Engelland worked the puck from the end boards to Dan Tudin who beat Dan Blackburn with a second left in the period.
The Salmon Kings played a good third period but only Scott Turner's first as a Salmon King from Wade and Glukhov beating Magliarditi, and Wranglers went on to beat Victoria by a score of 4-3.
Victoria has one more shot to beat the Wranglers on Monday night at the Bear Mountain Arena, game time is 7:00pm PST. Tickets are available for all Salmon Kings home games at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 250-220-7777.
