
Gators shot down by Everblades 6-5 in shootout

Lafayette, LA-Finishing up a three game in three day weekend, the Gators mounted a four goal third period comeback but lost in a shootout to the Florida Everblades 6-5, Sunday afternoon in the Cajundome.
  The Gators got off to a quick start as just 23 seconds into the game Wes Mason lit the lamp to give the Gators an early 1-0 lead. Mason walked out of the far corner and took a hard angle shot, Tyler MacKay made the save but couldn't control the rebound. Mason pounced on it and slammed it home for his 26th of the season, assists going to Chris Thompson and Bryan Perez. The rest of the period would belong to the Everblades as Florida scored the next four goals in the period. Brent McDonald (12), Steve Saviano (8), Ryan Brindley (5), and Dave Lundbohm (12) all scored in a span of 8:05 to give the visitors a 4-1 lead. Florida outshot Louisiana 16-8 in the first 20 minutes of play.
  The only goal of the 2nd period belonged to the Everblades as Keith Anderson buried a slap shot from 35 feet. Anderson's 11th goal was assisted by McDonald and Bryce Charpentier.
  Patrik Nilson made the score 5-2 at 3:22 of the 3rd period with a wrist shot that rolled up the arm of MacKay and into the net. Nilson scoring his 5th of the year, with an assist going to Roger Leonard. At 7:26, Joe Dustin lit the lamp for the first time as a Gator, to cut the Florida lead to 5-3. Dustin's 2nd goal of the season came on a wrist shot from the top of the right circle, assists going Leonard and Shawn Skiehar. The Gators cut the lead to one at 14:20 on a one-timer by Chris Thompson. Bryan Perez beat the Florida defense to the left corner and centered the puck to Thompson. Without hesitation, Thompson slammed home his 16th of the year. Louisiana tied the game with 14.1 to play. Pascal Pelletier sent a wrister toward the net, Mark Rooneem redirected the puck past MacKay for the tie. This marked the first time all season the Gators mounted a third period comeback, as Louisiana was 0-22-0 when trailing after two periods. After a scoreless overtime the shootout went to the Everblades as Lundbohm and Saviano scored while the Gators went 0-4.With the shootout loss, Louisiana's record is now 19-28-6, 44 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot Florida 42-25. Power plays were 0-3 for the Gators and 0-3 for the Blades.
