Steelheads gain two points over Long Beach

LONG BEACH, California - The Idaho Steelheads beat the West Division's first place Long Beach Ice Dogs 2-1 Saturday night, extending its winning streak to a season-high seven games. Tonight's game marked the last match up between the two teams this regular season, with Idaho claiming the season series 5-3-1. Idaho's all-time record is 33-8-7 over the Ice Dogs.

Steelheads' netminder Frank Doyle picks up his 21st win of the season, improving his record to 21-11-2, while Long Beach goalie Olivier Michaud drops to 15-11-3.

All the scoring in tonight's game came in the second period. Bobby Russell tallied his 17th of the season at 5:55 with an even-strength goal. Russell collected the puck coming out of a scramble in front of the Ice Dogs net, and backhanded a shot that beat Michaud. Just 1:04 later, Lance Galbraith tallied the game-winner, assisted by Warren Peters. Long Beach's lone goal of the contest came at 13:32 from Joe Cardarelli on a 4-on-4 after a Steelheads turnover.
