Idaho Steelheads News Release
LONG BEACH, California - The Idaho Steelheads beat the West Division's first place Long Beach Ice Dogs 2-1 Saturday night, extending its winning streak to a season-high seven games. Tonight's game marked the last match up between the two teams this regular season, with Idaho claiming the season series 5-3-1. Idaho's all-time record is 33-8-7 over the Ice Dogs.
Steelheads' netminder Frank Doyle picks up his 21st win of the season, improving his record to 21-11-2, while Long Beach goalie Olivier Michaud drops to 15-11-3.
All the scoring in tonight's game came in the second period. Bobby Russell tallied his 17th of the season at 5:55 with an even-strength goal. Russell collected the puck coming out of a scramble in front of the Ice Dogs net, and backhanded a shot that beat Michaud. Just 1:04 later, Lance Galbraith tallied the game-winner, assisted by Warren Peters. Long Beach's lone goal of the contest came at 13:32 from Joe Cardarelli on a 4-on-4 after a Steelheads turnover.
Idaho will take on the San Diego Gulls at 6:05 pm MST tomorrow evening at the Sports Arena. Tune in to 1350 KTIK The Ticket to hear Rob Simpson call the action, or log on to www.idahosteelheads.com to watch live streaming video provided by B2 Networks.
