Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx left fans on the edge of their seats Sunday as they came from behind to force overtime against the Greenville Grrrowl, and then won the game in a shootout by a 3-2 count to push their home winning streak to six consecutive games.

Greenville scored the first two goals of the game, opening things up just 5:28 into the contest on Richard Pittirri's shorthanded marker. J-F Plourde fed Pittirri the puck at the side of the Lynx net, where he pushed a shot on goal that eluded Jason Saal to make it 1-0. Ed Caron would then strike at the 1:13 mark of the second stanza with help from Simon Ferguson to make it a 2-0 game.

With the balance of the game on the line and time dwindling in the second period, Matt Dzieduszycki stole the puck from a Greenville player just inside the Grrrowl blue line and broke in on the opposing goal. Deking to the backhand, Dzieduszycki beat Jeff Deslauriers to the short side for an unassisted goal to make it a 2-1 game at 15:08 of the second period.

Tensions continued to mount into the third period, and Augusta would continue to press and look for the tying goal. Finally, at 18:45, Jamie Johnson would once again provide the heroics with a power play goal from Louis Goulet and Eric Johansson to push things to overtime. With no scoring during the sudden death period, Augusta took command in the shootout, scoring twice while Saal shut down all four Grrrowl shooters faced for the victory. Saal made 24 stops for the win, while Deslauriers made 41 saves in the loss for Greenville.

Augusta will get back to action with a pair of games in Columbia on Friday and Saturday night, followed by a matinee on Sunday in Pee Dee against the Pride. The Lynx will next play at home Saturday, March 12th against the Grrrowl at 7:35 pm. Tickets are on sale now for all remaining Lynx home games through the team office at (706) 724-4ICE, through all TicketMaster locations, or on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
