February 27, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
A Kris Goodjohn goal with 4:04 left in the second period sealed the 6 â 2 Gwinnett win Sunday afternoon over the South Carolina Stingrays in front of a crowd of 5,148 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
The six goals came from six different Gladiators in the win. Goodjohn and Jeff Campbell each tallied a goal and an assist in the win.
Mike Stathopoulos picked up Gwinnett's first goal of the game five minutes into the game, catching a pass from Randy Dagenais in the left wing faceoff circle and ripping a shot off balance past Stingrays netminder Justin Eddy.
Paul Flache capitalized on the Gladiators' only power play attempt almost four minutes later with a goal to give the Gladiators a 2 â 0 lead with 11:04 left in the first period. Jim Jackson and Chris Durno assisted on the Flache goal.
Carlyle Lewis put the Stingrays on the board for the first time at the 11:33 mark of the first period, to cut the gap to 2 â 1. Mark Ardelan tied the game up at 2 â 2 for South Carolina with 33 second left in the first period.
Goodjohn's goal was the lone second period goal and proved to be the game winner for the Gladiators.
For good measure, Gwinnett added three goals in the third period for the 6 â 2 final.
Alex Sawruk started the third-period drive for the Gladiators with an unassisted, breakaway goal at the 2:18 mark.
Campbell came right back more than three minutes later after picking up a deflection for an unassisted goal with 14:02 left in the game.
Brad Schell posted the game's final goal at 14:52 after picking up a long outlet pass from Jim Jackson.
Sean Fields tallied 35 saves for the Gladiators, while South Carolina's Justin Eddy picked up 41.
