Worcester Red Sox News Release
WORCESTER, M.A. - The Buffalo Bisons (10-4) held the Worcester Red Sox (8-6) to one run for the fourth time this season in a 4-1 win at Polar Park on Wednesday night.
Buffalo starter Alek Manoah, the reigning Triple-A East Pitcher of the Week, was dominant against the WooSox for the second time this season. The right-hander tossed 5.1 innings of one-run ball during opening week, and on Wednesday, he went six, allowing one run with 10 strikeouts.
The Bisons got on the board first versus Worcester starter Stephen Gonsalves-after Gonsalves struck out two to start the second, he walked the number seven hitter, Logan Warmoth. Juan Graterol jumped on the next pitch, ripping a two-run home run over the left field wall to make it 2-0 Buffalo.
The WooSox answered back in the bottom of the inning on a Chris Herrmann solo shot to center. It marked Herrmann's second homer of the season-both against the Bisons-and the first earned run allowed by Manoah this season.
Buffalo tacked on to its lead by scratching out runs in the fifth and sixth. With one out in the fifth, Forrest Wall reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second. Christian Colon brought him home with an RBI single to the right side, putting it through a gaping hole with three infielders left of the second base bag. Gonsalves would get out of it by picking off Colon and exited, finishing his day at five innings with three runs, four walks and eight strikeouts.
John Schreiber entered in the sixth and began the inning with a fly ball to center from Cullen Large. But outfielder Jarren Duran lost the ball in the sky, and it dropped in for a double. Large scored three batters later on an RBI single from Riley Adams to a similar spot, and Buffalo led 4-1 on four total hits.
Caleb Simpson and Brandon Brennan put up two scoreless innings out of the pen, but Bisons' pitching held Worcester to two hits over the final three innings to secure the victory.
The WooSox continue the six-game series at Polar Park on Thursday against the Buffalo Bisons at 6:35 p.m., with television coverage live on NESN+. Radio coverage starts at 6:15 on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network. Buffalo's Thomas Hatch goes against Kyle Hart (0-0, 3.72), who tossed six no-hit innings against Syracuse in his last start.
