Louisville Bats News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - Michael De Leon's two-run pinch-hit home run provided the Bats (4-8) with enough extra-innings heroics to fend off a comeback from the Memphis Redbirds (4-9) and secure a 4-2 11-inning victory inside AutoZone Park on Tuesday night.

After each team failed to score in the 10th, Michael De Leon opened the 11th with a two-run blast over the centerfield wall to give Louisville the lead for good. The Bats have now homered in five straight games for the first time since the 2019 season.

Brandon Finnegan forced a pop out and collected a sacrifice bunt in the home half of the 11th before giving way to Jose De Leon, who struck out his first batter to pick up the save and preserve the win.

Tony Santillan provided Louisville with another strong outing on the mound. The right-hander shut out the Redbirds through 6.0 innings to record his first quality start of the season. Santillan whiffed seven and now owns a 0.64 ERA with 20 strikeouts over 14.0 frames.

Scott Heineman walked and scored on a wild pickoff throw in the fourth and Santillan helped his own cause when he singled and scored in the fifth.

The Bats return to the action tomorrow afternoon for the second of the six-game series. First pitch is set for 1:15 p.m. as RHP Vladimir Gutierrez (2-0, 2.45) takes the ball to face off with RHP Angel Rondon (0-2, 11.88).
