Worcester Red Sox News Release
ALLENTOWN, P.A. - The Worcester Red Sox (20-23) erupted for a season high in homers and extra-base hits and matched their season-high in runs en route to a 13-2 victory over the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (23-20) at Coca Cola Park on Tuesday night.
The WooSox amassed four home runs, five doubles, and a triple to total 10 extra-base hits.
Worcester scored in each of the first five innings, starting with an RBI double from Rob Refsnyder in the first inning. Darrick Hall responded with a run-scoring double of his own in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one.
In the second, the WooSox scored their second run of the game on a passed ball, and then Jarren Duran ripped a triple into the right-center field gap to make it 3-1.
Connor Wong pulled a home run down the left-field line in the third to give Worcester a three-run lead. Ronaldo Hernandez lined a homer over the left-field fence in the next inning.
Worcester broke it open in the fifth inning, scoring six runs and sending 11 batters to the plate. It was a frame in which they hit back-to-back home runs. Refsnyder pulled a two-run shot to left, and Christin Stewart pulled a homer over the right-field fence.
In his second Triple-A start, Brayan Bello went six innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits, walking three and striking out 10. The 23-year-old became the first pitcher in the International League this season to strike out at least 10 batters in more than one start.
The WooSox continue their six-game series with the IronPigs tomorrow night at Coca Cola Park. Radio coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon, 100 FM The Pike, and throughout the WooSox Radio Network.
