RHP Logan Verrett (1-3, 5.64) vs. LHP Rob Zastryzny (0-2, 4.84)
GET AWAY FROM ME: The Rochester Red Wings dropped the series finale by a score of 4-2 after a three-run 8th plagued the Wings...with the loss, Lehigh Valley secured their second series win against Rochester, making them the only team to hand the Red Wings series losses (2)...RHP Cade Cavalli got the ball and went five strong innings allowing just a run on one hit and three walks while striking out four...first basemen Jake Noll picked up a pair of knocks in what was the only multi-hit performance for the Wings, batting in a run...right fielder Donovan Casey logged a third-inning triple marking his third three-bagger of the year...the Wings bullpen shut Lehigh Valley down until RHP Reed Garrett fell victim to four knocks that allowed three runs to come around and score...Rochester travels to Syracuse and will send RHP Logan Verrett to the mound in hopes of picking up their International League East-best 27th win.
CADE STRIKES BACK: Nationals' top prospect Cade Cavalli bounced back after a rough outing in the series opener against Lehigh Valley, pitching five innings on Sunday, allowing just one run on one hit and three walks....the right-hander held the Pigs hitless through four before giving up a knock to Lehigh's Dustin Peterson...if you were to remove Cavalli's 5/6 and 5/17 outings, the righty would have allowed seven earned runs in 16 innings since 4/30.
ROAD TRIPPING: Despite losing the series to Lehigh Valley, 4-2, Rochester remains in first place in the International League East with a 1.5 game lead over Buffalo...Rochester will head to Syracuse for a six game series against the Mets looking to continue their success against the New York's top affiliate as they took 4-of-6 in the first series against the thruway rival...in that first series, the Wings averaged over six runs per game, thanks to the long ball as Rochester logged their series-high home run total (9).
BACK ON ROAD: The Red Wings have been dynamite on the road with a record of 12-6 away from Frontier Field...the pitching staff has fared slightly better on the road with a 4.16 ERA compared to a 4.94 home ERA...the team also averages 10 strikeouts per game on the road, which ranks second in the International League behind the Gwinnett Stripers (ATL) who average 11 per game.
WE'RE SO EXTRA: The Wings extended their extra-base-hit-streak to 42 games on Sunday, one of two teams in the International League to log an extra base knock in all of their games this season thanks to a triple from right fielder Donovan Casey...the three-bagger was Casey's third of the year, ranking second on the team behind Luis Garcia (4).
RAKE NOLL: Going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base on Sunday, Jake Noll logged his 12th multi-hit game and is now tied for fourth in RBI (19) on the club with Josh Palacios...additionally, Noll is fourth on the team for total hits (36), total bases (56), and tied for fourth with outfielder Donovan Casey for stolen bases (4), while taking the crown for most doubles (12) on the club.
BATMAN #307: After hitting just .143 (2-for-14) in his first 5 games with the Red Wings, infielder Lucius Fox found his stride this past week, slashing .421/.476/.737 in six games against the Pigs...he went 8-for-19, with a home run, a triple, a double, four RBI, and a run scored...during the LHV series he lead all Rochester batters in hits (8) and batting average (.421)...after going 0-for10 in his first four games with Rochester, he is now 10-for-33, good for a slash line of .303/.425/.515 in 11 games.
2-OUT WARRIORS: The Wings picked up a pair of two-out knocks Sunday, marking their 122nd and 123rd two-out hits of the year...the Wings are batting an International League-best .263 (123-for-467) and have the third most RBI when down to their last out in an inning...first basemen Joey Meneses leads the team in two-out knocks (18) and added to his total Sunday, with a third-inning.
HAPPENS TO THE BEST OF US: Red Wings' hitters had their toughest series yet at the plate, compiling a season-low 43 hits through the homestand against the Pigs, uncharacteristic of the club who leads the International League in batting average (.267, 379-for-1422)...Rochester compiled a season-low 21 runs through the series too, with their previous season low also coming against Lehigh Valley, scoring just 24 runs in the first meeting with the Pigs.
TALE OF TWO STORIES: The Wings have a record of 15-3 against teams under .500 (+44 run differential) in the early going...this compares to Rochester's record versus teams over .500, posting an 11-13 record (-33 run differential)....the Wings record in one-run games is 10-2, winning one-run games at an 83% rate, the second best percentage in all of affiliated baseball (Single-A Bradenton (PIT) 8-1).
WINGS GOT WHEELZ: The Wings are third in the International League East in stolen bags with 49 swipes...leading the charge is left-fielder Andrew Stevenson, whose 14 stolen bases lead the Wings and is second among all IL players.
