Bisons Begin Series with 1-0 Victory against Columbus

Buffalo Bisons News Release
COLUMBUS, OH - After a rainout on Sunday and an off day yesterday, the Buffalo Bisons returned to the field to open up a six-game set against the Columbus Clippers on Tuesday night, where the Bisons picked up the 1-0 shutout win from Huntington Park.
Casey Lawrence continued his excellent season by throwing 5.2 shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four to lower his ERA to a team-leading 2.20 on the year.
The Bisons bullpen picked up right where Lawrence left off, with Brandon Eisert finishing things up in the sixth, before Kyle Johnston struck out the side in the seventh. Trent Thornton had a perfect eighth facing the top of the order, as did Matt Gage in the ninth. The relievers combined to strike out seven batters in 3.1 innings while allowing just one hit over that span.
It was a quiet offensive night for the Bisons as well, with the lone run of the ballgame coming in the fifth when Cullen Large went deep for his second home run of the season off Clippers starter Tobias Myers.
Making his Bisons and Triple-A debut in this one was switch-hitting outfielder Chavez Young, who recently finished up a rehab stint in Dunedin after beginning the year with an injury.
Young, a 39th round pick in 2016 from the Bahamas, spent last year in New Hampshire where he hit .265 with seven homers, 52 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases. He went 1-3 with a single while playing in centerfield.
The Bisons and Clippers will meet again tomorrow night, with a pair of lefties set to face off in Nick Allgeyer and Konnor Pilkington. Earlier this month, Pilkington made his first MLB start against the Blue Jays in Cleveland, where he threw 3.2 innings giving up two runs and striking out six. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.
