
Wellwood Named CCM Vector / AHL Player of the Week

The American Hockey League announced today that St. John's Maple Leafs center Kyle Wellwood has been named the CCM Vector / AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 31st. In four games last week Wellwood tallied nine points (6G,3A) including three powerplay goals, was a +3 and had 15 shots on net.
On Monday, Wellwood assisted on the Maple Leafs only goal of the game, Brad Leeb's first of the season, in a 3-1 loss to the Manitoba Moose. The following evening, Wellwood scored the game-tying goal, a powerplay marker, and assisted on two other Leafs goals to defeat the Moose 4-2. Wellwood was selected 3rd Star of the game. Finally, on Saturday evening, Kyle Wellwood had a career game in setting a St. John's Maple Leafs franchise record with five goals, including two powerplay markers, to lead the team to an 8-3 win over the Cleveland Barons. Wellwood was named the game's 1st Star. Wellwood was drafted with Toronto's 6th choice, 134th overall in 2001.
