WPXT and WPME Team Up With The Pirates

November 1, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release

PORTLAND, ME – Maine's WB and Maine's UPN are teaming up with the Portland Pirates to create two promotional initiatives on behalf of families and children in the greater Portland area.

"Ticket Treasure" is the first campaign and it collects winter gloves and hats for area children. To encourage donations, everyone who brings a new pair of gloves and hat to either the Civic Center on game nights or the Pirates retail store (at 531 Congress St. in Portland) will receive two free tickets to an upcoming Pirates home game! A :30 second promotional spot will air on the stations of Maine's UPN and Maine's WB and all gloves & hats received will be distributed by the United Way of Greater Portland in time for the holiday season.

A second promotional campaign will be created with an anti-violence message. BE NICE OFF THE ICE will star defenseman and crowd favorite Louis Robitaille. Known for his rough, intense play as a member of the Portland Pirates, Louis will encourage kids to take a different approach on the playground. As he puts it, "...play hard in the game. Be nice off the ice." Targeting the growing problem of bullies in local schools, this public service announcement will be co-sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maine.

Recognizing that children and their families make up a large percentage of their respective core audiences, Maine's WB, Maine's UPN and the Portland Pirates are giving something back to the community. The "Ticket Treasure" campaign will run November 2nd through December 31st. The "Be Nice Off The Ice" PSA will run November through the end of the Pirates regular season in April 2005.
