
River Rats face road trip weekend

Albany River Rats News Release
The Albany River Rats begin a three-games-in-three-nights road trip on Friday against the Binghamton Senators at 7:05pm. The Senators (4-4-0-0, T-4th East) dropped their second straight contest by a 5-3 score to the Manitoba Moose at home on Saturday night. C Jason Spezza leads the top affiliate of the Ottawa Senators with eight (3-5) points, including two game-winning goals in eight games this season. Former R.P.I. Engineer D Brian Pothier tops team blueliners with four (2-2) points, which includes a team-high two power play goals. Albany holds a 4-10-3-2 record in the all-time regular season series against Binghamton, including a 1-5-2-1 mark on the road. The River Rats defeated the Senators 5-2 at Pepsi Arena on October 15th and the teams meet another eight times after Friday's game. Remaining Schedule: Albany - Dec. 11th, Feb. 12th, 25th & March 12th; Binghamton - Dec. 22nd, 26th, Jan. 29th & March 5th.
The River Rats make their only visit to Verizon Wireless Arena to square off against the Manchester Monarchs at 7:35pm on Saturday night. The Monarchs (7-0-0-0, 1st Atlantic) posted a 3-0 road shutout victory over the Portland Pirates on Sunday to remain perfect and will visit Worcester on Friday night. C Yanick Lehoux ranks second in the AHL with nine goals and third overall with 14 points for the top affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings. RW Tom Kostopolous stands second in the league with 10 assists and a plus nine rating in seven games during the 2004-05 campaign. Albany shows a 2-3-1-2 record in the all-time series versus Manchester, which includes a winless road mark of 0-2-1-1. The River Rats host the Monarchs on January 22nd at 7:30pm to complete the season series.
Albany closes out the weekend against the Lowell Lock Monsters in a 4:00pm face-off at Paul E. Tsongas Arena. The Lock Monsters (3-3-1-0, 5th Atlantic) are coming off a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Worcester IceCats on Saturday night to remain winless over the last four (0-3-1) contests. The top prospects of the Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames will host the Springfield Falcons on Saturday. C Eric Staal leads the club with 10 (4-6) points and a plus three rating, while LW Colin Forbes stands second with seven (4-3) points in seven games this year. Albany shows a 6-4-2 record against Lowell in the all-time regular season series, including a 2-3-1 mark away from home. The teams face-off another three times this season on March 2nd and 25th in Albany and on the final day of the season (April 17th) at Lowell's Tsongas Arena.
Rat Bites:
* RW Aaron Voros (5-4-9) and C Zach Parise (3-5-8) rank 1-2 among AHL rookie
scorers, while Parise has his season opening, six game point-scoring streak snapped
on Friday night.
* Rookie RW Cam Janssen ranks third overall and leads all AHL rookies with 67
penalty minutes in nine games this season.
* After surrendering six power play goals against in the season's first two games,
Albany has killed off 38 of the last 40 opposition man advantages, including the
last 14 chances overall.

River Rats Rewind: Week 2 - October 25, 2004 (0-2-0-1, 1pt)
October 27th - ALB 1 @ NOR 2 F/SO - D David Hale scored for the second straight game and C Zach Parise extended his scoring streak to six games with the only assist. G Scott Clemmensen stopped a season-high 45 shots on goal as the River Rats picked up a point in their first-ever shootout.
October 29th - WBS 4 @ ALB 1 - RW Aaron Voros scored the River Rats' only goal as the club lost on home ice for the first time in four (3-1) games this season. G Scott Clemmensen stopped 21 shots as the Penguins evened the season series at 1-1 following Albany's 5-2 come-from-behind victory last weekend.
October 30th - NOR 3 @ ALB 0 - G Craig Anderson stopped 29 shots and the Admirals scored :24 apart during the third period en route to a 3-0 road victory at Pepsi Arena. G Scott Clemmensen stopped 32 shots on the night, as the River Rats remained winless (0-1-0-1) against Norfolk this season
