Walleye Fall Behind Early and Lose in Kalamazoo 5-1

(Kalamazoo, MI) Shane Berschbach found the back of the net for the Walleye but Kalamazoo took the game 5-1 Friday night in Kalamazoo. Toledo has an overall record of 27-12-1-3 and 13-7-1-2 on the road. Toledo right back in Kalamazoo Saturday.

The first night of back to back games for the two started with a bang for Kalamazoo. Forward Curtis Valk scored twice in the first 9:25 to put the Wings up by two after the first period. Toledo sent 18 shots on Kalamazoo goaltender Joel Martin during the opening period.

Valk was at it again when he deflected a blue line shot past goaltender past Jeff Lerg at 5:31 of the second period. Toledo dented the scoresheet at 13:00 of the period when Shane Berschbach (15th) tapped in a loose puck right at the side of the Kalamazoo net.

Toledo couldn't get any closer on this night as Ludwig Blomstrand made it 4-1 Kalamazoo at 11:35 of the third period. An empty net goal finishes the scoring.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 19 of the 23 shots he faced and saw his record go to 19-5-0-2 on the season. The loss snapped a seven game winning streak for Lerg. The goal by Berschbach in the second period tied his season total from last year, his first professional season. A.J. Jenks did not collect a point and his Walleye record tying ten game point streak (6g, 10A) came to a close.
