Explosive First Period Powers Eagles to 6-0 Win in Wichita

Colorado Eagles News Release

WICHITA, KS - Colorado scored four goals in less than seven minutes to build a 4-0 lead in the first period, while goaltender Eric Levine captured his fourth shutout of the season in a 6-0 win over the Wichita Thunder at Intrust Bank Arena on Friday. With the victory, Colorado has now won seven straight games.

After killing-off an early penalty, the Eagles went on the march, as forward Kyle Ostrow grabbed a pass from fellow forward Johnny Lazo in the low-slot and stuffed it past Wichita goalie David Shantz to give Colorado the 1-0 lead with 10:36 to play in the first period.

Less than three minutes later, Eagles forward Kyle Kraemer finished off a beautiful give-and-go with defenseman Colin Joe, by burying a wrister past Shantz and growing Colorado's lead to 2-0.

Only 2:28 later, forward Derek Rodwell muscled his way down the left circle and beat Shantz five-hole to stretch the Eagles advantage to 3-0. The goal would also chase Shantz from the net, as he would give way to Grant Rollheiser for the duration of the contest.

Just 56 seconds after the Rodwell goal, forward Johnny Lazo netted his 10th goal in 10 games, taking a feed between the circles from linemate Darryl Bootland and besting Rollheiser to give Colorado the 4-0 lead.

Colorado would continue to build their advantage in the second frame, as rookie forward Peter MacIntyre took a pass at the Thunder blue line, circled behind the net and stuffed home his first professional goal with 9:07 remaining in the period. It also capped-off a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick", as MacIntyre had already collected an assist and dropped the gloves earlier in the contest. The Eagles would take the 5-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Eagles would cap-off the night with a third period goal that saw Ostrow set-up behind the Wichita net and center the puck to defenseman Jake Marto who flung it into the net, giving the Eagles a 6-0 lead that they would hold until the conclusion for their seventh-consecutive victory. Levine stopped all 36 shots he faced in the win.

The Eagles will travel to Missouri to take on the Missouri Mavericks on Saturday night at 6:05pm MST.
