Stingrays Score 4-3 Shootout Victory over Brampton

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - Joe Devin and David Pacan scored in the shootout to earn the South Carolina Stingrays (23-16-3-2) a 4-3 victory over the visiting Brampton Beast (14-21-6-3) Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Brett Cameron notched three points for the Stingrays, and goaltender Mark Dekanich stopped 24 of 25 Brampton shots, and two Beast shootout attempts as the Stingrays gained the extra point in the first ever meeting between the two teams.

After a scoreless opening period, the team's traded goals in the first 26 seconds of the second period. South Carolina would open the scoring on Brett Cameron's 12th goal of the season. The forward snapped a shot from the right wing over the glove of Brampton goaltender Drew Fielding to make it 1-0. Before the goal could be announced, Steve Kaunisto would tie the game just 12 seconds later, deflecting a Joe Zarbo shot from the slot past Dekanich for the Beast.

The goals would continue to come quickly. Devin struck for the Stingrays on the power play at the 4:00 mark for his 10th goal of the season. Cameron dished the puck to Devin on the left side of the goal. The forward maneuvered the puck from his backhand to his forehand, and chipped a shot over Fielding's glove to make it 2-1 South Carolina. Pacan assisted, extending his point streak to seven games.

The teams would combine for four goals in the third period with the Beast taking a brief lead. Reggie Traccitto tied the game on a rebound only 40 seconds into the period to make it 2-2, and then Nick McParland put the Beast in front, 3-2, knocking in a rebound off a Travis Brown shot from the point at 3:26. However, the Stingrays responded quickly. Kevin Quick tied the game 4:39 on a wrist shot from the point to even the game at three.

After a late power play attempt, and a power play in overtime failed to convert for the Stingrays, the two teams went to a shootout. Joe Zarbo would score first for the Beast, but Devin responded, snapping a shot past the blocker of Fielding. After Dekanich denied Luc-Olivier Blain, Pacan struck on a perfectly placed wrist shot under the blocker of Fielding to give the Stingrays the shootout advantage. Dekanich would then deny Kaunisto's shootout bid to earn the Stingrays the victory.

South Carolina outshot the Beast 30-25 and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Brampton went 0-for-4.

Tomorrow, the Stingrays host the rival Florida Everblades for Military Appreciation Night presented by APECS Aerospace. The Stingrays will be wearing special jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game to benefit America's Mighty Warriors. Debbie Lee from America's Mighty Warriors will also be in attendance, and the game features a CD giveaway to the first 1,500 fans plus FREE parking. Additionally, active or retired military members, veterans, and Gold Star Families can visit the Box Office tomorrow for a complimentary ticket to the game courtesy of APECS Aerospace.
