GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Norfolk Admirals scored late in the third and skated to a 3-2 victory against the Adirondack Thunder Friday night at Glens Falls Civic Center.

Adirondack was first to strike when Ryan Lomberg scored his seventh of the season after he flicked one in Norfolk's net at 1:18 in the first. Michael Kirkpatrick fed the puck to Alexandre Carrier, who tipped a pass out in front to Lomberg at the doorstep and put the Thunder ahead, 1-0.

Just 35 seconds later, Jeff Silengo hit the top shelf from the left dot as Norfolk's Nick MacNeil sat for high-sticking. Silengo received a feed from Ryan Culkin and his laser at 1:53 edged Adirondack into the two-goal advantage that held through the remainder of the opening frame.

The Admirals lit the lamp at 2:47 in the second period--Michael Pelech's slapshot was blocked by Adirondack netminder Kent Simpson, and Gabriel Verpaelst tapped in the rebound to cut the Thunder's lead in half, 2-1.

At 9:18, Steven Whitney notched the equalizer when he threw a wrister from the slot that found the back of Adirondack's net. Scott Allen collected his own deflected shot from the boards and pushed the puck out in front to Whitney, who netted his eleventh goal of the season. His goal knotted the score 2-2 at the end of the second period.

Norfolk took the lead at 17:01 in the final period when Allen swatted it past Simpson's glove side from point-blank range with help from Verpaelst and Whitney, tipping the Admirals up 3-2 and securing the victory.

Ty Rimmer saved 17 of 19 Thunder attempts, and Simpson denied 30 of 33 Norfolk shots on net. The Admirals went scoreless on four man-advantages, while Adirondack went 1-for-4.

The Admirals will face the Thunder again Saturday night for the second of a back-to-back series at Glens Falls Civic Center at 7:00 p.m.
