Steelheads Hold on for 2-1 Win over Aces

February 5, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, IDAHO - Jake Fallon scored two goals and goaltender Jack Cambell turned aside 31 Alaska shots as the Idaho Steelheads held off the Aces 2-1 Friday at the CenturyLink Arena in Boise.

The Steelheads forged a 1-0 lead in the first period as Joe Basaraba brought the puck up the right wing and into the Alaska zone. He dropped a pass to Andre-Bouvet Morrissette who shot toward the Aces net. The puck was deflected by Jake Fallon past Alaska goaltender Troy Redmann for Fallon's second goal of the season. Also in the first, the Aces lost forward Tim Coffman to a lower body injury. He was unavailable for further action in the game.

In the second period, both teams had excellent opportunities, mostly the Aces, but they couldn't put the puck past Idaho netminder Jack Campbell. The Steelheads couldn't solve Redmann either, managing just 6 shots on goal compared to the Aces 11.

In the third, Fallon scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal at 1:59. Fallon blocked a shot at the right point by Aces defenseman Davis Vandane, then raced through the neutral zone on his way to the goal. He went forehand-backhand, roofing the shot over the left leg pad and glove of Redmann.

Tony Deluca would make things interesting for Alaska, cutting the lead in half with a lazer shot past the glove of Campbell on the power play at 17:27. It was Deluca's 5th goal of the season. Assists to William Wrenn and Daniel Johnston.

Alaska coach Rob Murray pulled Redmann for an extra attacker inside of 2 minutes to go, but Alaska couldn't get the equalizer even with intense pressure.

Redmann finished with 21 saves...Campbell had 31.

The Aces and Steelheads will play the series finale Saturday at 5:10pm Alaska time at the CenturyLink Arena.

The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena to face the defending ECHL champion Allen Americans at the Sullivan Arena February 10, 12 and 13. It will be Aces Hall of Fame weekend. For tickets, stop by the Aces ticket office at 15th and Gambell Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm or go online at www.alaskaaces.com.
