Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - Jake Fallon netted both goals and Jack Campbell made 31 saves as the Idaho Steelheads (24-19-5) took down the Alaska Aces (17-23-5) in a defensive battle at CenturyLink Arena, 2-1.

Fallon entered the game with just one goal on the season, but he served as Idaho's offensive engine Friday night. With captain Carson McMillan missing his first game of the season, there was an opportunity for Fallon and he seized it. The rookie forward opened the scoring for the Steelheads 11:30 of the first period by following fundamentals and driving the net.

Skating over the blue line on a 3-on-2 rush, Joe Basaraba dropped a pass to the high slot for Andre Morrissette. Morrissette let go a drive that deflected off the shin guard of Fallon in the low slot and bounced past Aces' goaltender Troy Redmann to give Idaho a 1-0 lead.

Fallon would extend that lead with a breakaway goal just 1:59 into the third period after blocking a point shot from Davis Vandane. Fallon raced down the bouncing puck in the neutral zone after it had banged off his shin guard, carrying it in on Redmann and pulling it to the backhand to roof his second of the night.

Anthony Deluca would spoil Campbell's shutout bid with 2:33 to go in regulation on a power play wrister past the Idaho goaltender's glove. That was as close as the Aces would get thanks to strong defensive work by the Steelheads and several big stops by Campbell, especially in a fray around the Idaho net in the closing seconds.

With time winding down and Alaska's net empty, the Aces crashed the Idaho net with Justin Breton, Peter Sivak, and William Wrenn all attacking. Campbell made 12 of his 31 saves in the third period.

With the win, the Steelheads have not lost back-to-back games since December 9th and 10th. The win combined with the Utah Grizzlies' loss to Allen tonight moved the Steelheads within three points of the West Division lead.

The Steelheads and Aces meet for the rubber-match of their three-game series on Saturday night with puck-drop scheduled for 7:10pm MT. The game is available on 1350AM KTIK, CableOne, and ECHLTV.
