Indianapolis Indians News Release
TOLEDO, OHIO - The Toledo Mud Hens jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as the Indianapolis Indians dropped the series opener on Tuesday night, 7-1.
The bottom half of the first inning began with three consecutive walks, but Cam Vieaux (L, 2-2) escaped the inning with just one run surrendered on a sacrifice fly by the No. 2 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Spencer Torkelson. Back-to-back one-out walks in the second inning led to Toledo extending it's lead, 2-0.
The Mud Hens (50-40) began the fourth inning with a solo home run off the bat of Ryan Kreidler. Juan Centeno and Isaac Paredes then each singled to manufacture a second run in the frame.
The Indians (43-47) scored one run in the fifth inning off Ricardo Pinto (W, 8-1). With Bligh Madris on second base following a leadoff walk and wild pitch, Hunter Owen singled to center field to drive in the run. Pinto then continued to shut down Indy's offense, tossing 6.0 innings in relief with five strikeouts.
Free bases continued to hurt the Indians as Toledo put up three runs in the seventh inning to take the 7-1 lead. With the bases loaded following back-to-back hit batters, a wild pitch scored the first run of the frame. Centeno then doubled off the right-field wall to drive in two more.
Michael Chavis led the Indians offense with three of the team's seven hits. It was his second three-hit performance in 12 games with the Indians.
The Indians will look to bounce back from their second consecutive loss on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM ET. RHP James Marvel (4-4, 5.46) will take the mound against LHP Matthew Boyd (0-0, 0.00).
