Fargo, N.D. - The Winnipeg Goldeyes bullpen needed a day off and Ace Walker was glad to give it one.

Sunday afternoon in front of 2,833 at Fargo's Newman Outdoor Field, Walker pitched a complete game as he led the Goldeyes to a 7-2 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and a rare series victory in Fargo.

Walker scattered eight hits over nine complete innings as the Goldeyes won the four-game series 3-1 and improved to 32-21 on the season. The Fish are now 15-8 at home and 17-13 on the road this season, but more importantly they left third-place Fargo 7.5 games behind them in the race for the American Association's North Division championship.

"Rick (Goldeyes manager Forney) said before the game that our bullpen was empty and they needed a break," Walker said after the game. "I was happy to give it to them. The team needed me to step up for them and was happy to to be able to that.

"But if Wes Long doesn't make a great play at shortstop, if Louis Ott isn't perfect at third base and if Price Kendall doesn't do his usual great job at second base, it might have been different. This was a great day for the Goldeyes. We pitched well, hit well and played defense well."

The Goldeyes got started early and staked Walker to a quick 3-0 advantage. In the second inning, Brian Myrow walked, went to third on a hit-and-run infield single by Justin Bass and scored on an error to the first baseman, Kyle Nichols, who dropped the ball on a failed pickoff attempt at first. Then, in the top of third, Brian Joynt led off with a double and scored on a single by Kody Kaiser. Kaiser went to second on the throw to the plate, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Wes Long who now leads the Goldeyes with 45 runs batted in this season.

Nic Jackson (now hitting .320) drove home Fargo's first run in the bottom of the third, but Jon Weber homered in the fourth to make it 4-1 for the Fish.

Jackson doubled home Carlo Cota to make it 4-2 in the fifth, but the Goldeyes put it away in the top of the ninth. Weber led off with a walk, went to third on a single by Luis Alen and scored on a ground-out by Bass. Alen then scored on Joynt's second double of the game and Price Kendall finished off the attack by driving home Joynt with a double of his own. That made it 7-2 and Walker took care of the RedHawks in the bottom of the ninth.

Walker improved to 6-3 with the win and lowered his ERA to 3.47. Starter Alex Caldera (5-2, 2.46) took the loss for Fargo.

The Goldeyes left right after the game for St. Paul. They'll play a four-game series in three days against the Saints. Game time Monday night is 7 p.m. and all the action can be heard on Sports Radio 1290, with Paul Edmonds.
