Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (25-28) beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes (31-21) 6-5 in walk-off fashion on an RBI single by C.J. Retherford on Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.
The 4,120 RedHawk fans in attendance were treated to another nail biter on Saturday night. This time the RedHawks got on the board first and ended up with the win.
Todd Jennings knocked in the first run of the game with a single in the fourth inning during his first game as a RedHawk. The RedHawks scored again in the fifth inning to gain a 2-0 lead.
The Goldeyes responded by putting two runs up in the sixth inning on a pair of singles and a double. Then, Ridge Carpenter gave them their first lead of the game in the seventh inning with a pinch hit single up the middle to make the score 3-2. Carpenter entered the game for Luis Alen, who left with a hand injury.
Jesse Hoorelbeke tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning by plating Nic Jackson with a double, but the Goldeyes scored two more runs in the eighth inning to reclaim the lead. Jay Cox cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning by singling down the line and taking advantage of miscues by fill-in Goldeye catcher Louis Ott.
That would be the score as the RedHawks entered the ninth inning. Carlo Cota and Jackson started the inning with singles. Hoorelbeke moved Cota over with a fielder's choice. Then, Kyle Nichols, Cox, and Retherford rattled off three straight singles to give the RedHawks the comeback win over the Goldeyes.
Goldeye closer, Jamie Vermilyea (1-3), received the loss. Joe Harris (1-1) picked up his first professional win by getting the last four outs of the game for RedHawks. Three of those were strikeouts.
The RedHawks will play the series finale of their four-game series against Winnipeg on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 6:00 pm. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
