The Captains took an early four-run lead after an inning and a half. Robert Perry scored the first run of the game, coming home on an error by Cats third baseman Butch Ballez. In the second, the Captains added a run on a Perry RBI single to make it 4-0.

But the Cats would close the gap in the second with three runs and take the lead with three more in the third. Trent Lockwood, Brian Fryer, Ballez and Morales all singled to lead off the second. Morales hit scored the first two runs of the frame and Ballez came in on an error to make it 4-3.

In the third, Morales hit a bases loaded double to clear the bases and give Ft. Worth their first lead. The Cats would load the bases in the fourth but failed to score. Shreveport-Bossier cut the lead to 6-5 in the fifth when Mike Provencher doubled to lead off the inning and Sabatella scored him with a base hit. Provencher went 3-for-5 on the night. However, the Captains would leave the tying and go-ahead run on second and third when Karr grounded out to Morales at short to end the inning.

The Captains tied the game momentarily in the sixth off Calhoun. Uriak Marquez reached base to lead off the inning on an error by second baseman Derek Kinzler. Bryan Frichter moved Marquez to second on a sacrifice bunt and Marquez scored on a Provencher base hit. Again, the Captains would leave the go-ahead run at third when Perry lined out to Morales.

The Cats would re-take the lead for good in the sixth when John Allen led off with a single and scored on Lockwood's base hit. In the seventh, the Captains put runners on first and second with no outs but didn't score. They left the bases loaded in the eighth when Sabatella struck out and Andres Rodriguez flew out to center field.

Ft. Worth added a run in the eighth when Morales drew a bases loaded walk from Captains reliever Mark Haynes to make it 8-6. Nick DeBarr (Sv, 5) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.
