St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The St. Paul Saints did it to the RailCats again, scoring three eighth inning runs to overcome an early 5-0 deficit and post an 8-7 victory in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. St. Paul won three games in the series, all by a one-run margin.

The RailCats jumped on the Saints early, scoring five runs in the first inning. Adam Klein led off with a single and Mike Massaro followed with a walk. Brad Boyer extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a double off the wall in left, scoring Klein. Massaro scurried to the plate on a wild pitch before Cristian Guerrero walked. Toddric Johnson singled home a run to stretch the advantage to 3-0, Guerrero then trotted home on an error. Mike Rohde finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

St. Paul connected on four homers in the game, two in the bottom of the second to begin the comeback. Brandon Tripp netted a two-run blast with Jonathan Van Every following with a solo homer to bring the Saints within 5-3. Johnson hit the seventh RailCat homer of the series in the top of the third, his second of the series, while Klein doubled home Chris Carrara in the sixth to stretch the lead to 7-3.

Scott Shaw left with a 7-5 lead following six innings of work for the RailCats, in position for his fifth consecutive win despite surrendering another two-run homer to Van Every in the sixth. Shaw struck out five.

St. Paul, who scored three runs in the seventh last night to record a 5-4 comeback win, plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead. Tripp brought the Saints within a run with an RBI single before pinch hitter Alex Garabedian logged a two-run homer over the wall in left-center for his first of the year against closer Travis Minix.

Robert Manuel worked around a two-out ninth inning single from Johnson, striking out the side to save his third game of the series. For the fourth time in the series the RailCats posted 10 or more hits. Johnson led the way with a 3-for-5 showing.

The RailCats, who remain in first place, return home on Monday to open a three game series with the Sioux City Explorers at 7:10 p.m. RHP Jack Frawley (2-4, 5.93) will start for the RailCats while the Explorers will send RHP Ty Marotz (4-2, 3.59) to the hill. Tuesday will be another Tenth Anniversary Tuesday, featuring a picture giveaway to the first 1,000 fans entering the ballpark and an appearance from Steve Haake.
