Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox could not get anything going against the Grand Prairie Airhogs relievers, getting only three hits through six and one-third innings as they fell to the Airhogs 12-8 in front of 2,508 fans on Sunday night at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.
Sox reliever LaCurtis Hayes (0-1) got the loss, as he allowed the unearned go-ahead run to score in the seventh. Airhogs reliever Bo Schultz (2-2) got the win, pitching two scoreless innings and allowing only a walk as the sole baserunner.
The Airhogs took the early lead as Danny Figueroa led off with a single, went to third on a David Espinosa single and scored on a Greg Porter sacrifice fly. Amarillo responded in a big way in the bottom half of the first. Matt Tucker started the inning by taking a walk on a 12-pitch at-bat. Cyle Hankerd, Lee Cruz, Van Pope and Tim Alberts all followed with singles to put two runs on the board and load the bases. Adam De La Garza came through with a two-run double to give the Sox a 4-1 advantage.
Grand Prairie tied the game in the third on a two-run triple by David Espinosa and an RBI groundout from Cesar Nicolas, but Amarillo would respond with more in the bottom half. Kevin Butler and Jason White both hit one-out singles, while Fehlandt Lentini singled to score Butler. Cyle Hankerd doubled down the left field line to score both baserunners, while Lee Cruz doubled to score Hankerd for an 8-4 Amarillo lead.
The Airhogs tied the game again in the fifth on RBI from Chris McMurray, Nicolas, John Alonso and Guillermo Martinez. They took the lead in the seventh on an Alonso RBI, while McMurray added another run in the eighth for a 10-8 lead.
Two more runs scored for Grand Prairie in the ninth, while the Sox couldn't get back on the board to fall by the score of 12-8.
With the loss, the Sox fall to 27-27 while the Airhogs improve to 37-17.
