St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints offense was dormant most of the night, but a tide turning two-out three-run seventh helped send the Saints to a 5-4 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Saturday night at Midway Stadium in front of 5,312.
With the Saints trailing 4-2 in the seventh inning and two outs they got to RailCats reliever Chris Little, who was making his first appearance with his new team. Adam Frost got an all important walk. Ronnie Bourquin, who had extended his hitting streak and run scoring streak to a career high 13-games in his previous at bat, doubled to left-center scoring Frost making it 4-3. Ole Sheldon lined a single to right and Bourquin scored to tie the game at four which chased Little. With James Baker coming out of the bullpen Jason Cooper singled to right moving Sheldon to third. Richard Mercado then battled Baker and fouled off the first four pitches and on the fifth pitch he grounded it up the middle for an RBI single giving the Saints their first lead of the night.
For the second straight night the RailCats put up a crooked number in the first as Brad Boyer hit a two-run homer to right-center, his sixth of the season and his second in as many nights.
In the fourth the RailCats took a 3-1 lead as Mike Rohde hit his fourth of the season, a solo shot to right.
The homer fest continued for the RailCats in the fifth as Boyer hit his second of the game and seventh of the season with a homer to right-center making it 4-1. All three homers came against Saints starter Donald Brandt who has now given up 10 on the season.
The final game of the four game series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium. The Saints send RHP Jake Schmidt (5-2, 5.09) against RailCats RHP Scott Shaw (6-3, 4.97). It is Harry Potter Day as the first 1,501 fans will receive a Saints wizard styled scarf. The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
