Veilleux's three-point night propels K-Wings past Walleye

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings avenged a loss earlier in the week to the Toledo Walleye by defeating them 6-3 Saturday night at Wings Stadium to extend their home winning streak in regulation to a season-high four games (3-0-1-0).

Earning his third goal of the season by finishing off a two-on-one odd man rush, Elgin Reid put the K-Wings ahead 3:35 into the contest.

Beating Mac Carruth along the near post, Yannick Veilleux (2nd) extended the K-Wings lead to two goals. Held without a goal for the first 26 games this season, Veilleux has earned all three of his goals this week against the Walleye.

Scoring 4:52 into the second period, Louis-Marc Aubry (5th) cut the K-Wings deficit to a single goal.

Responding with back-to-back goals, Kalamazoo increased their lead 4-1. Yanni Gourde notched his team-best 15th goal of the campaign with a tally from point blank range.

Sneaking into the high-slot, Vellieux (3rd) one-timed his second of the night 11:04 into the stanza.

Toledo's Ryan Flanigan stopped Kalamazoo's run 45 seconds later with his second goal of the year.

Chris Lawrence (2nd) ended his scoring drought midway in the third period with a wrist shot from the left circle. The goal was Lawrence's first goal since October 26th.

Toledo kept battling back. With less than three minutes remaining in the game David Gilbert (7th) brought the Walleye within two goals; however, the K-Wings kept the pressure on and closed out the scoring with an empty-net shorthander from Reid (4th).

Kalamazoo will begin a brief two-game road swing this Wednesday; January 8th with a 7 p.m. encounter against the Fort Wayne Komets. The game was originally scheduled for tomorrow night, but was postponed because of the current and predicted inclement weather in the Kalamazoo and Fort Wayne surrounding areas.

The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium this Saturday, January 11th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Komets during Star Wars Night and Schupan &Sons INC. presents Big Brothers and Big Sisters Night.

Tickets for all K-Wings home games are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations, including www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000. Ticket office hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Regular season ticket prices for home games are $13 and $17.50 for adults and only $7 for kids ages 12 and under. The price for all K-Wings premium night games (all colored ice games and the New Year's Eve game) are just $1 more. Fans can save money by purchasing K-Wings single-game tickets in advance. Tickets purchased on the day of a game increase by $2 (adults only).

Fans that plan on attending multiple games can avoid service fees plus enjoy a discount from the single-game price by purchasing a 12, 24 or 36-game flexi-plan.
