
Jones Named the MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Former ECHL and current Los Angeles Kings goaltender Martin Jones is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for December.
The leading distributor of game- worn hockey jerseys and "Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL," MeiGray has sold more than 6,800 jerseys since it became "The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL" in 2002-03.
The 23-year-old made his NHL debut on Dec. 3, and in 10 games during the month went 8-2-0 with three shutouts, a 1.28 goals-against average and a save percentage of .955. Jones won each of his first eight career starts to match the NHL record to start a career in one season, and had three shutouts in a span of five starts, making 16 saves in a 3-0 win against the New York Islanders on Dec. 7, stopping 31 shots in a 6-0 victory at Montreal on Dec. 10 and turning aside 24 shots in a 3-0 win against Edmonton on Dec. 17.
A native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Jones is 8-3-0 with three shutouts, a 1.41 goals-against average and a save percentage of .950 in 11 appearances with the Kings this season. Prior to his recall to Los Angeles, he saw action in 13 games with Manchester of the American Hockey League posting a record of 9-2-2 with one shutout, a 2.24 goals-against average and a save percentage of .927.
Jones made his first professional appearance in the ECHL with Ontario on Oct. 16, 2010, making 26 saves in Ontario's 5-4 overtime win at Stockton. He has appeared in 149 career American Hockey League games with Manchester posting an overall record of 77-56-9 with 11 shutouts, a 2.45 goals-against average and a save percentage of .921.
There have been 527 players who have played in the NHL after playing in the ECHL including 15 who have made their debut in 2013-14. The ECHL has had 335 players reach the NHL since 2002-03 when it changed its focus to become the primary developmental league for the NHL and the AHL. The ECHL had 97 players reach the NHL in its first 10 seasons and 215 in the first 15 years. There have been 271 ECHL players who have played their first game in the last seven seasons for an average of more than 30 per year.
